Rachael Ray Cookware Material Safety- Aluminum vs. Hard-Anodized Aluminum

Aluminum is widely used in cookware manufacturing because of its availability and affordable price. That’s why most low-priced pots and pans are made with this material. But in some regions, aluminum cookware is banned for safety reasons because low-quality aluminum is used in those pans, which causes leaching. Getting a quality aluminum cookware set is always recommended, though you will need to spend a little more money.

Aluminum: Ensure you are buying high-quality aluminum pans for the kitchen to avoid leaching issues. High heat can leach aluminum by 0.5%, which may affect the nervous and immune systems. Our bodies don’t need more than 0.1% aluminum because it doesn’t have any nutritional value. Also, it may react with acidic foods and change the taste of the food. So you must buy branded aluminum cookware instead of the local one.

Hard-Anodized Aluminum Cookware: It is 50% safer than aluminum and 30% stronger than stainless steel. So I always recommend hard-anodized aluminum cookware over stainless steel and pure aluminum. It is a type of coating that seals the core material and prevents leaching, corroding, or reacting. So the material is completely safe, easy to clean, and durable.

Buyers’ Queries on Rachel Ray Cookware

    • Are Rachel Ray pots and pan glass top stove safe?

Yes, most of the cookware models from Rachel Ray come with a smooth bottom surface, which is a must for glass top stove compatibility.

    • Is Rachel Ray cookware safe?

The cookware is POFA-free, but some models contain PTFE. That’s why the cookware surface is so smooth and won’t stick. So, I recommend cooking on low-medium heat.

    • Where is Rachel Ray cookware made?

Though it is an American cookware brand, the pots and pans are manufactured in Thailand. The lids are made in China. But the main architectural features, like shape, color, size, etc., are designed in the USA.

    • Is Rachel Ray cookware dishwasher safe?

If it is a pure aluminum cookware set, I would recommend only handwashing as harsh chemicals can corrode the surface and make the food sticky.

But hard-anodized aluminum cookware is dishwasher-safe because it prevents the alkalinity of the dishwasher.

    • Who should buy the Rachel Ray cookware set?

As the size of the pans and pots is not so big, the cookware is ideal for a small to medium family (1-4 members).

    2. I received the Rachel Ray cookware set for xmas a couple of years ago. I have it hung in my kitchen displaying it proudly. I love my cookware but the enamel has started to come off & doesn’t look good anymore. Also there are scorch marks that I can’t get off. Help …. What can I do???

      1. Miriam Medina

I have the same problem only had my set 5 months. My pots looked worse than my old wash set that I had over 15 years. They are all black on the bottom. If you get help please share with me. Thank you

    3. Last year I bought 5 boxes of Racheal Rays sets of pots and pans. My daughter had a set of the orange ones from several years ago and they lasted a pretty long time but the ones I bought last year to give out for Christmas presents haven’t lasted hardly a month. I have one set I’m giving to a friend’s daughter for her wedding gift but I pray it doesn’t flake off in the bottom of the pans like the rest have. I spent lots of money and wasn’t pleased with the products. I try not to complain but I was disappointed. I even have one of the old orange pots that was from my daughter’s first set. Still using it ,no problems with it. Have a blessed day!

      1. Gerry A Buchanan

Which set did you have ? Was it the Platinumshield / Enameled Aluminum? I just purchased it and it is very light in weight and color inside the pans
        Concerned Consumer

      2. Melissa Griffith

I just bought 12 quart stock pot and the 3rd time I used it, everything stuck to bottom, even cooking it on low. Sending it back with stuck on chicken and noodles.

    4. I have purchased 4 item in the ceramic line for Christmas gifts which I am going to try to return tomorrow. I have several items in my cabinets which have just recently started cracking and I sure would not try to bake food in something that is cracking . From the reviews I have read I understand it is very difficult to get anything done about this I am very disappointed. I loved the looks and enjoyed the three times I used the pieces I had.
I did not try to return my dishes they had been used and I do not have sales slips they were gifts

    5. The blue set of cookware started to loose it color within 6 mnths. Will never buy again. The cookware cannot sustain high heat. It leaves burn marks. I want my money back.!! I really would like for Rachel Ray to test some of her products. I cook often

    6. Christine R Carrico

I bought the Rachel ray bake ware and made pork chops in the 13×9 pan and the cake pan and had the oven set at 400 and they scorched big time and i can’t get them clean. i am so pissed off and i want my money back

    7. i bought my set last night, use it this morning to make eggs and the eggs stuck to the pan, I had to stop cooking the eggs and use on of my old pans, i am not happy with the set and now i cannot send it back. I read the direction and it says not to use oil.. whats up with this cookware.

    8. Is there any difference between the “Brights” (87661) hard anodized nonstick cookware pots and pan set and the “Cucina” (87630) hard anodized nonstick cookware pots and pan set? Is one just a newer model?

          1. I just purchased a 13 piece in Lt, blue shimmer. I have an electric stove. It took 2 hours for the 6 q. pot to come to a boil, turned up as high as it would go, with room temp broth. You cannot bring the temp down. It took 7 minutes to slow it down to a simmer. The aluminum is too thick. It might work better on gas. The little spatula tool discolored immediately in the chicken broth. I was replacing an old set of Paula Deen. I don’t think it was an improvement.

    9. I have a 2 quart pot that the black enamel is coming off. What is your warranty on this I don’t want use it anymore because the black comes off in my food.

    10. Jeanmarie Tigar

I bought 2 sets of the pots and pans in the blue/green color about 3 years ago and I love them!!!! I haven’t had a bit of problems with them…..I dont put in dishwasher my choice, I will buy more in the future as a house warming present for my daughter who is moving away to her own house

    11. Which set did you buy? I’m working at purchasing a sat in a blue green color and the reviews do not look good so I’m ambivalent! Yours is the only good review I saw but I am concerned about the nonstick aluminum versus the enamel aluminum? Again, which set did you buy?

    12. I purchased the Rachael Ray Brights Nonstick Cookware Set/Pots and Pans Set – 14 Piece, Marine Blue two years ago, today I cook up a pot of soup for dinner. Let it cool down so I can
transfer left over soup into a container to put in the fridge. As I am carrying the pot to a table to transfer the soup the one handle broke off causing the pot to hit the floor. I am not impressed making a big mess to clean up and loosing most of my soup. Lesson learn don’t waste your time on spending money on brand name cookware, don’t last longer then cheaper cookware.
